Belgian Liege Waffles

Description

Best served with a cup of hot chocolade, this waffle is simple yet delicious!

Ingredients

  • 60ml milk (lukewarm)
  • 20g instant yeast
  • 400g AP flour
  • 40g vanilla sugar
  • 170g butter (softened, cubed)
  • 2 eggs
  • 150g granulated sugar
  • Salt

Instructions

  1. Mix milk and yeast and rest for 10 minutes (the mixture should become bubbly)
  2. In the bowl of a stand mixer with the dough hook attached, mix flour, salt and vanilla sugar until well combined
  3. While leaving the stand mixer on at low-medium speed, add the butter cubes one by one
  4. While leaving the stand mixer on at low-medium speed, slowly pour in the milk-yeast mixture
  5. Add the eggs in the stand mixer and knead until the dough is elastic (approx. 5-10 minutes)
  6. Cover the bowl with foil and rest for 40 minutes in a warm and non-drafty spot
  7. Mix the granulated sugar with the dough
  8. Roll the dough in to a tube shape and split in to balls of approx. 75 grams
  9. Put the balls on a floured sheet of baking paper
  10. Cover balls with kitchen towel
  11. Heat waffle iron on highest setting
  12. Bake balls until golden brown waffles appear
  13. Let waffles cool on a baking rack
  14. Optionally cover with power sugar and enjoy!
